Ethan Frome.

Ethan Frome lives with his wife and her cousin in an isolated New England farmhouse during a long winter. Snow drifts against the doors and windows. The wind cuts across the open land. Ethan goes out each day to manage the farm. He returns to a house that offers little warmth. His wife keeps to her room for much of the time. Her cousin prepares the meals and tends the fire. The three sit together in the evenings. Outside, the road remains empty. The nearest town stays out of reach until the spring thaw.
